Monitoring and Evaluation

Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) is an integral part of project management cycle specifically intended to provide feedback on how the implementation of a program/project is progressing. This feedback system aims at detecting problems, and reviewing appropriate activities to improve project performance. It identifies areas where the programme can be managed differently to ensure quality of the process of project management and the results. M & E also seeks to highlight success and challenges and identify future potential of the programme. It assists in the refinement of the programme's process, systems and results.

Through Monitoring & Evaluation, information on project performance is gathered and analyzed on the areas covered in the activities identified in the scope of works. Thereafter the ideal project management practices necessary for the success of the programme are recommended. The performance information can be quantitative or qualitative, systematic or anecdotal, and it can be derived from either primary data or secondary data.

The process would be as follows:

  • Assessment of project success, terms of customer satisfaction, programme impact and sustainability, efficiency of resources use, effectiveness in meeting the programme's objectives and future potential for improvement.
  • Establishment and documentation of project achievements of programme's goals and objectives in terms of results, performance, quality of process, technical and administrative performance and provision of information for improvement.
  • Making recommendations that relate to the programme's objectives, results improvements, refinement and future.
